Q: Can I use Hardwood Flooring in My Basement?

A: A basement is not the best place for hardwood flooring. Basements have a higher relative humidity because they are under ground. Hardwood flooring absorbs this excess moisture causing it to expand which makes the edges to buckle. The best options for this area is engineered wood flooring or floating engineered flooring.

Q: What are the Differences Between the Brands of Hardwood Flooring?

A: There are quite a few differences between hardwood flooring brands. You will find that some manufacturers use a lower quality wood and bad milling. The best hardwood flooring manufacturers have been around a long time and a have a good reputation. They are the companies with a proven track record.

Q: Can I Install My Own Hardwood Flooring?

A: You can install your own hardwood floors but we don't recommend it. Professional installers know how to measure and install floors properly. It's easy to make a mistake measuring your floor and ordering more hardwood flooring than you need or less flooring. Installing the floors is very important as well. If they aren't installed properly the floors could end up buckling and having other issues. Hardwood flooring that is installed properly should last 20 years or more.

Q: What Tools Will I Need to Install My Own Floors?

A: If you choose to install your own hardwood floors you will need the proper tools. There are a few tools you will need including a combination square, miter saw, jig saw, small table saw, a hardwood flooring nailer with cleat nails or staples, 8-penny finish nails & nail set, drill and more. You will be able to find these items at your local rental store or lumberyard.

Q: What are The Benefits of Prefinished Hardwood Flooring Rather Than Unfinished Wood Flooring?

A: When you purchase prefinished hardwood flooring you will save time and money. You will eliminate the time it will take to sand and refinish the flooring. If you were to sand the flooring yourself you will need to purchase the sanding machines and go through the process of sanding the floors yourself. Then you will need to add a finishing coat and wait days for the coat to dry before you could put the furniture back and use that room.
