You’ve just finished putting new floors in your home only to realize your window treatments don’t go well with them! What do you do now?

We’ve been there. When you remodel your home, it’s hard to remember every little aspect that might need to change. Luckily, we have some tips to help you decide what window treatments are right for you and your home.

In a previous post, we talked to you about deciding what kind of window treatment you might want to go with depending on their function. Now, let’s talk about how to make them match with the rest of your homes design.

First, think about the design of your room.

Is your style casual? Elegant? Traditional? Choose a window treatment that matches your style. Here are a few styles to think about.

Relaxed Roman Shade

This style of shade goes extremely well with a more feminine or traditional décor. This treatment is known for its curved bottoms. It works well to soften harsh lines of a window.

Flat Roman Shade

This style of shade complements both masculine and feminine décor. It works well with virtually any style of home. It can create a pop of color in even the simplest rooms, while still bringing sophistication to an elegant room.

Floor to Ceiling Panels

With panels, you can decide what length you would like them. Floor to ceiling panels in a large room help the room seem more intimate.

Think about the function of the room

Is your room a high traffic area? Then you might want to keep the window treatments off the ground. Does your room have large windows? If so, you will want to think about what will block out sun when needed, or what could help block out the heat or cold. Are you looking for treatments for a family room that is mostly used in the evening? You might want to go for a layered style to fit your needs.

Choosing the fabric

Once you decide on a style, how do you go about choosing a fabric to match your décor? Luckily, they window treatments you choose don’t have to match exactly, they just need to tie into your décor.

If you have a simple room, you can either choose to add a pop of color, or keep the treatments simple as well. Make sure the color you choose goes with the color palate you have in your room. If you want your fabric to stick out, choose a bright color. If you want them to blend in, choose a non-dominant color in your décor.

You will want the texture of the fabric matches the room. You don’t want dark and heavy drapes in a bright and airy room. If you style is light, keep the fabric light. If your style is darker, stick with a darker fabric. Also, if you have patterns on your furniture, it’s best to stay away from patterned window treatments.

One thing to remember is that when you find a treatment that you like, make sure it fits in the room. You don’t have to stick with the same style in every room. One style might go with one room, but clash with another, so be sure to keep each room in mind while choosing your window treatments.
